What is Formula SAE?
In 1981, the Society of Automotive Engineers started a formula car competition between universities, with four teams competing. Now there are six events worldwide, and it is considered by many to be the most prestigious university engineering design competition in the world. The largest event is the USA event held in Detroit, Michigan, with registration limited to 140 teams. In 2005, the registration limit was filled in four hours. To accommodate the large number of schools that want to compete in the United States, SAE is now sponsoring another competition in California. Many teams will undoubtedly participate in both the east and west competitions. BYU will be one of those teams who competes in the FSAE West Competition. |
